Statement: Contemporary, abstract paintings; some works reflect the state of the Irish landscape. Van Maanen's original use of painting materials, such as dry pigments combined with the weather (rainfall) has created a distinct personal style. Colours are clear and austere.Van Maanen has lived and worked in Ireland since 1993.
Exhibitions: Since 1979 in museums and art galleries in Europe, as well as at art and design fairs, such as Nouvelle Factory, Zurich; I.M.M., Cologne and Fiera del Mobile, Milan.
Awards: 1981, 1984, 1987, 1988 (2), 1989, 1991 (nomination) and 2006.
